Romney Campaign Ignoring the Conservative Blogosphere

Several of my friends in the conservative Blogosphere have been discussing the Romney Campaign. Specifically their failure to make even the smallest gestures towards Conservative blogs. I’m not talking about monetary compensation (although tip jars DO exist!). That’s not why most of us have become bloggers and activists.

While it’s true most of us weren’t really into Mitt Romney during the Republican Primary, his failure to reach out and seek the support of the Conservatives on the internet is astonishing.

The local and national campaigns “keep us in the loop” pretty good. But all we ever get from Mitt is an occasional “we want your money” mass email that he sends out to millions.

Many of us take part in conference calls with Congressmen, Senators and other officials, elected and hoping to be elected.

A story in the Washington Post observes that Romney knows he has a problem with Conservatives, mainly because he’s not really a Conservative and his messaging seems to be intended to make sure anyone to his right keeps their distance.

From WaPo:

Mitt Romney is planning to fortify his communications and messaging team by adding seasoned operatives, advisers close to the campaign said Thursday, after withering criticism from prominent conservative voices that his insular team has fumbled recent opportunities.

Romney’s advisers insisted that he would keep his inner circle intact amid growing concerns about the Republican presidential candidate and his campaign. The tempest began with a weekend tweet from media tycoon Rupert Murdoch and burst Thursday onto the pages of his newspaper the Wall Street Journal, as its conservative editorial board opined that Romney’s advisers were “slowly squandering an historic opportunity” to beat President Obama.

We get it. You’re a Massachusetts Republican. That much is not going to change. But you are far and away better than Barack Obama. Heck, we’d all be happy to get behind Jimmy Carter at this point. At least he didn’t hate America, although his attitude may have changed of late.

And heaven knows Mitt is far better than Carter.

Romney is the horse we are going to have to ride into the election. We all have accepted that.

But the WaPo article does not seem to acknowledge that Mitt even recognizes that he is failing to communicate with the group that has the eye and ear of most of the Conservative Activists in the country. Why would he turn his back on that?

The truth is, there is a lot of potential help out here in the Blogosphere for Romney, but he needs to reach out and tap it.

As part of the new reorganization that WaPo claims is going on in camp Romney, he might want to add someone that is charged with both listening to and involving Bloggers.

We don’t want Obama just as much as Romney wants to be president. Perhaps more!
